If you or a loved one were recently arrested and released through posting bail you may have a few questions. What happens now? What are your responsibilities? In today’s post we’re going to briefly cover what you can expect after being released by posting bail. While every individual’s case may vary here’s what you can usually expect.
Don’t Miss Your Court Date: After you or your loved one has been released you will be given an appointed court date for your hearing. It is very important to make sure you do not miss your court date since there can be serious consequences for “jumping” bail. For example a warrant may be issued for your arrest and if you’re rearrested while on bail you will not receive any money back from posting bail. It is your responsibility to arrive at the appropriate time on your court date.
If You Have a Job: If you’re employed, we recommend contacting your place of employment immediately to notify them of your court date so the proper steps can be taken to insure you’re not scheduled to come into work that day. In addition if you have any other responsibilities such as children we recommend making arrangements for them to be taken care of while you’re at your hearing. If a nanny or daycare isn’t an option often times you can find help by reaching out to your friends or family members.
One common question we are asked is whether or not the defendant is able to travel while out on bail. In some cases the court will specify if you are able to travel out of the state or county, if this has not been specified by the court you can contact your bonding agency.
